Loop Super-Top Up helps Japfa look out for its most vulnerable employees
Japfa is a leading provider of affordable protein food to the world. The Singapore-based protein feed company that has been in India for 25 years. This study examines how Loop helped Japfa provide healthcare benefits to its most vulnerable employees without incurring any extra costs.
Many of Japfa’s employees have been with the company since it established its India office in 1995. These employees are a valuable asset to a company which is running 1000+ commercial farms and 100+ products in the country. However as the company grows many of these long term employees have healthcare needs which require interventions beyond the company’s GHI offerings.
Japfa has a strong presence across multiple regions in India with a very diverse workforce. This lead to the following challenges:
- Disparity in coverage requirements of employees.
- Lack of awareness regarding health needs within the workforce.
- Identifying the varied healthcare needs of the workforce.
- Multiple policies placed with different vendors then it’s difficult to coordinate with multiple vendors
Loop offered a fresh new option- the ‘Super Top-Up’- a highly customizable way to increase coverage. Additionally Loop provided the following:
- An in-depth analysis of employee health needs
- Awareness drives to register and understand employees’ health needs.
- 24X7 medical, claims, and customer support on the Loop app
- Dedicated Medical Advisor
- Lab tests at discounted prices
- Loop helped integrate multiple vendors
Japfa has seen significant savings in medical expenses. It has also seen a record number of employees using Loop’s medical services.
- The Super-Top Up allowed an employee to claim over 1.5 Lakhs for a surgery.
- The online consults saw 70% unique consultations with an incredibly high satisfaction rating of 3.9/4
- The medical services resulted in additional savings of INR 102,300
- Frequent engagements with claims advisors lead to a high percentage of cashless claims and over 92% claims reimbursed within 10 days.
- More than 55% of claims were cashless. This means most employees did not have to pay anything upfront for hospitalization.
Challenges
Being a company that deals with nutrition, the health of its employees has always been a priority for Japfa. As the company expanded over the years the HR department noticed a disparity within the health needs of the organization.
Many long term employees who brought immense value with their unique experience in the animal feed industry also had unique family needs. These needs included greater dependency from family members and a limited awareness of preventive healthcare options.
There was a significant financial burden on the company as the management noticed advance payouts for healthcare needs such as planned surgeries. Unfortunately, increasing the base coverage for every employee was not an option as the company was expanding rapidly and the workforce was growing.
The company was approaching multiple vendors for different aspects of insurance but that was proving to be a great burden on the company’s time and resources.
Solutions
Loop was brought in to find a way to prioritize healthcare without losing sight of the budget constraints. Loop and the HR department worked together to do an analysis of the employees who would require more coverage options. They identified employees who would be in greater need of medical assistance.
A case in point was Mr. Arvind Pathare whose family was greatly affected during the COVID pandemic. Mr. Pathare was due for some major surgeries which would prove to be really expensive.
This is when Loop provided the ‘Super Top Up’ option to Japfa. The Super Top Up is a Loop exclusive product that allows employees to increase their base coverage. It also offers a range of additional benefits for family members and increases their coverage at a marginal premium. For employees such as Mr. Pathare the Super Top-Up had a life changing impact.
Loop also organized sessions in tandem with the HRs to build awareness around the healthcare benefits that were available to the employees. Employees were guided on how to use the mobile application for consults and expert guidance on different preventive tests was given.
This allowed the HR to establish a chain of communication with employees which helped HRs make timely interventions for their healthcare.
Result
Many employees saw value in the Super Top-Up option. Mr Pathare was able to undergo multiple surgeries amounting to over 1.5 lakhs with the help of the Super-Top Up. In a testimony he even remarked that for him the Super Top Up was an investment for his family, not just himself.
In terms of claims, 55% of the claims were cashless. Such a high percentage was unprecedented for Japfa and it meant that most of the employees did not have to pay anything upfront when they were hospitalized.
Moreover 90% of the claims were utilized by employees below the age of 40. This means much of the insurance benefits were going towards the employee’s families. The on-ground claims support during discharge also received positive feedback as many employees were not in a position to negotiate claims with Hospitals, TPAs and insurers.
The video consultations available on the app provided some interesting insights. Not only was the application used across 12 specialities including dermatology and gynecology. Out of the 87 consultations, 70% were unique. This means most of these consultations were availed by different employees. This reassured the management that Loop’s intervention made sure every employee’s unique needs were catered to. A fact which was further evidenced by the high average satisfaction rating of 3.9/4 for the consultations.
The awareness sessions helped by Loop also yielded positive results as employees were not just informed of their benefits but were also informed about the network hospitals available to them. This in turn made sure claims processes were more efficient.
Overall, Loop helped Japfa save over 102,300 INR in medical services alone. Additionally with 24X7 support in claims, more than 92% reimbursement claims were settled within 10 days and 97% were settled in just 15 days.Most importantly however, Japfa was able to look after its oldest employees because often the most valuable assets are also the most vulnerable.
