Another solution is wellness sessions that focus on holistic well-being. This includes sessions like yoga, mindfulness training, nutrition, self-defense, and more. It’s a way to help employees stay physically healthy, and improve their mental and emotional well-being.
Preventive care is also a key component of a health benefits package. It encourages employees to get regular check-ups and screenings, and provides them with the resources they need to stay on top of their health.

Result
Improving the health benefits package involved modifying the types of benefits provided and introducing new programs or services.
One such way was via technology like the Loop app, which provided employees with easy access to their health insurance and telehealth consultations.
Nearly 80% of Esper employees downloaded the Loop app. They used the app to chat with a medical advisor (MA), consult with doctors, book lab tests, and more.
So far, there were 165 MA chats, 46 doctor consults, and 22 lab test bookings. Of the doctor consultations, 26% were for family physicians and diabetologists, 20% for dermatologists, 6% for orthopedics, and 6% for nutritionists, among others.
With a score of 3.9 out of 4, the overall rating was exceptional.
Joel, the India HR lead said, “Loop has disrupted the market. An employee can consult a doctor, whether a physician or a counselor, in just a few clicks. It has everything from a medical standpoint under one umbrella. Now, everything has become very easy!”
In addition to the Loop app, we conducted 7 wellness sessions that focused on holistic well-being. The topics ranged from diabetes care to music therapy, deep cleaning your portfolio, and more. These sessions helped companies promote overall health and well-being among their employees, increasing productivity and job satisfaction.
Unlike earlier, where health insurance providers and organizations took a very reactive approach, Esper changed their approach to healthcare to pursue a more proactive approach. When employees had access to such care, they were more likely to seek treatment for health issues early on, which could lead to better health outcomes.
Loop’s preventive care efforts like regular check-ups, screenings, and helping employees prevent illness and promote early detection of health issues. This helped Esper ensure their workforce stayed healthy and reduced the cost of healthcare expenses.
On top of these services, Esper offers a few more interesting initiatives designed exclusively for the wellness of employees.
They have a wellness reimbursement program for reimbursement of up to Rs. 10,000 a month. These could be used for anything which promotes employee health like yoga, gym subscriptions,sports etc and also mental health counseling, or even a spa. The idea iss to ensure employees are taken care of holistically.
Another tie-up is with a mental health well-being vendor. Joel is a firm believer in the importance of mental wellbeing of employees. He even has a Masters in Social Work. The vendor ran surveys to evaluate the employees' mental health. Based on the results, employees who needed support could meet with qualified counselors.
Understanding how employees felt was a valuable tool, and this approach was outstanding for achieving that goal. The system ensured complete confidentiality, to the extent that even HR personnel were unable to access it. However, overall scores were available, which allowed HRs to evaluate stress levels and other factors. This information aided in making informed decisions that enhanced productivity and well-being.
Esper's forward-thinking culture is evident in their policies, which allowed employees to add their live-in partners, even if they were of the same sex, to their health insurance. They demonstrated support for women's health by providing one day of menstrual leave each month with no questions asked.
