Customer rating is 5 of 5  Great Product!   2010-08-02

I looked for weeks and weeks, read review after review before I purchased this product. I am training for a 1/2 marathon, and I'm up to running 3 miles 3 days a week. I'm a 6'0" male, and weigh 224 lbs. I have a 42" waist and had no problems whatsoever wearing the large size belt. You have to fit it snug, and low on the hips as suggested. If you can't do this, it will bounce. I'm only using 2 of the bottles for now, and I wish there was a way to remove the other two holders until needed, but there is not. I also wish the pouches were on the sides, and not the front/back. Of course, add pouches and make them and the holders removable, and you probably increase the price by 50% as well. I don't know if I'm willing to pay much more than this for a belt right now.

The front pouch holds my iPod nano (older model) with the Nike+ receiver attached, with no problems. Probably couldn't squeeze much more in there. The back pouch is quite large. I'm sure it will come in handy for gels or a small snack when I get to that point. Of course, I could be wearing it backwards, and the large pouch goes in the front. Haven't tried putting it on that way.

I've had NO problems with my arms hitting the bottles. That may be due to my long torso length. I run with my arms quite low, so I was afraid this would be an issue when I purchased it, but it isn't at all. I DO have problems with it hitting my stomach when I'm stretching, and I noticed this morning there were a couple of indentions in my stomach where the bottles were during my run. Of course, if I keep running, and lose the stomach, then all is well! :)

The ONLY problem I've had is with closing the bottles. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but the nozzle has to be pushed against my teeth to close it. Not really an issue at all, except I tried to close it with my lips, and pinched my lip, making it bleed. Not the product's fault at all, my fault. Also, the bottles are shaped so that when you pull them out, and lift them to your mouth, every last drop comes out of the bottle. Nice little engineering feature that I enjoy. It's not difficult at all to empty the bottle.

I was a little skittish of the "geek factor" of running with a hydration belt, but the first time I reached for a drink, I changed my mind.

All in all, I really like this product. I'm by no means a pro, since I've only been running for 2 months, but I am really happy with my choice, and with the quality. I'll update if something changes, but right now, I'm happy. Glad to have water when I need it. I don't even notice it's there, I guess part of that is the fact that I'm 220+, so 20oz of water makes no difference. I don't really think adding the other 2 bottles will make much of a difference.

**Update** Adding the other two bottles did make a difference. I had to position the belt differently than with only 2 in the front. I've lost more of the belly, but the front bottles still make the indentions in my stomach. After a 5 mile run, these turn into sore places.

My running partner has the amphipod, and it's quite different, and almost double the price. However, the bottles are movable, as is the pouch. If the Nathan had this, I could position the bottles to not push against my stomach. But like I said, it would probably push the cost up a lot to do this. Also, the Amphipod has a clip, and not velcro. I'm still not sure if this is enough change to make me want a different belt or not. I feel like the velcro isn't going to last long, as it's already starting to wear, and I've only run 10 times with it on. I'm going to try reversing it (large pouch in the front), and see if that helps.

Also, I'm making sure I remove the bottles from the belt when I'm not using it. I'm afraid the elastic may weaken because of the bottles being there all the time. Not a fact, just a thought...

Another item I noticed is the bottles on the Nathan are vertical, whereas the Amphipod are hortizonal. This makes the amphipod's bottles slosh around and make a lot of noise. The Nathan bottles are quiet.

I'm still happy with my purchase. We'll see how it performs on the higher mileage runs. 6, 8, 10 miles.

I have both the 2 bottle and the 4 bottle version of the Nathan Speed. I really like this product. I used it for Marathon training and never had a bottle fall out. Best way to wear it is very low on your waste (keeps the bottles from bouncing).

This waist pack is relatively comfortable, light weight and breathable. I find I have to wear it around my waist, above my hips, because otherwise it just rides up over and over. I bought a medium so it would fit around my hips - but even if I do it up snug, it still rides. So, I wear it around my waist. In hindsight I should have got a size small. I wear a size 10 jeans, but my waist is small. Wearing the pack around my waist means it effects my stride a bit - my arms will bump into it. Also, if you do not fill all four water bottles, the pack will move a bit in the direction of the weight.
Overall, this is a good product and will become a good running friend. I took it out for 12 miles on the weekend and was very satisfied - it carried two gels packs and lots of water (each bottle is 12 oz). The bottles slide in and out very easily - but I did walk while drinking so I cannot say if one could take the bottles out while running.

I think this is worth trying.

I am extremely happy with this belt. I have worn it on an 8 mile run and and 12 mile run. The belt fits snuggly, but not too tight. It doesn't move at all and is very comfortable. I also did not have any problems with my arms hitting the bottles as some others have had. I also took advice others gave and tried to drink evenly from all four bottles. This seemed to work well. Also, I was in between a medium and small and wasn't sure what to get, so I ordered the small. I'm glad I did. It is definitely the right size. So, I would suggest ordering down a size if you are in the middle. The pockets are pretty nice, too. The smaller pocket is big enough for my i pod nano and you could also fit some flat items in it, like a credit card or id. In the back pocket, I was able to fit my blackberry 8330 and a snack, but it was pretty tight, but the 8330 is a really big phone. Overall, this is a very nice belt and I am happy with it.

This is a great belt if you always plan on using all of the bottles. The belt fits nicely and comfortable and doesn't bounce around too much. My only complaint is that sometimes I don't want to use all four bottles, but the straps for the bottles are made of a hard plastic that sticks out whether or not there is a bottle in them. It would make more sense if the straps were fabric or if they could come off when you didn't want to use them.
