Finally....Weight Loss SUCESS!! 2010-09-01 |
| By runningteachermom |
I have tried every fad diet under the sun and just keep gaining weight. In December, I was diagnosed hypothyroid. I got this book, and over the course of 2 months, I implemented the suggestions in the book. I follow 2 of them exactly - 1.If it didn't have a Mom, or it didn't grow from the ground - DON'T EAT IT! and 2. No Carbs at night.
This has worked extremely well. I am halfway to my goal in just a month, and have more energy than ever. I am sleeping through the night for the first time in 9 years. I feel great, and am starting to look great! The pounds are just falling off and I am amazed!!
I HIGHLY recommend this book!

The next step in educating ourselves on what we eat 2010-08-31 |
| By KC (Kansas City) |
| This is an important book that takes us to the next step in what we are putting into our bodies and what it does to us. We give more thought to the type of gasoline we put into our cars than what food we put into our bodies. This book just adds more data points for more informed decisions. |
Very helpful information! 2010-08-29 |
| By Gretchen Pedersen (Irrigon, OR) |
| She explains normal hormones, "hormonal" hormones, and all the other average-"joe" hormones in our bodies. How to attack them and make them work naturally and then how to get rid of a bunch of toxins in our homes and food, even stuff we didn't know was bad for us. Great! |
Worthwhile Reading 2010-08-28 |
| By Ms. Darlene Hansen |
I bought this book hoping to get ideas on how to speed up my sluggish metabolism. I wasn't disappointed. I read the book from cover to cover in about two days and had a hard time putting it down. The book is very well organized, well written in an easy to understand format with lots of charts to refer back to. It starts out with an interesting account of the author's own struggles with weight loss and what led up to her writing the book. The book tells you the foods and products to avoid and their affect on hormones, what foods to eat and when to eat them to optimize your weight loss. Yes, she does have a list of what foods should be organic and why and what foods should be organic only if possible but she also provides lots of resources for finding these foods along with some recommended brands that made my shopping a lot easier.
I was surprised at how fast the weight started coming off again even after losing a steady but slow 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound a week on The Southbeach Diet for the last six months. I am now losing a steady 2 pounds a week and I have the added bonus of knowing I'm eating healthy too.

Very informative 2010-08-25 |
| By Albert Eydelman (New York) |
This book explains in detail why we need to eat, and why we need to eat it.
It's main argument is that the chemicals of the food industry have made our bodies sick and fat. The book uses a great amount of scientific knowledge to convince you of it's main point. Some other reviewers saw this as a detriment which I don't understand. Granted, I took some chemistry in college, but it wasn't so complex that you can't follow and they do simplify it.
Just like another reviewer said... the basic tenets of this book is quite simple. Get off the junk that our corrupted food industry is producing (sorry for that liberal rant, wont happen again) and eat organic, rid yourself of products that have high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, glutamates, hydrogenated fats, and simple carbs. If you don't know what these are, google it or buy the book, it explains it well also.
The only criticism I have is one of economics. Organic is expensive, as other reviewers have said. However, as the author points out, long term medical bills and being fat cost more. Also, author argues to do what you can. Buy organic when you can is still preferable to not buying it at all. |
